Influence of blade maximum thickness on airfoil performance with varied leading edge erosion rate

چکیده
In this study, the effect of different blade shapes on aerodynamic performance NACA series airfoils under a wide variety working conditions at Reynolds number Re = 700,000 was explored. The SST k-ω turbulence model used for CFD method to investigate leading edge erosion airfoils. results indicated that an optimal thickness range exists considering erosion. If airfoil too thin or thick, increased, and significantly reduced. However, will not decrease greatly when moderate, even if increased. For same airfoil, less erosion, better its be. When degree (depth) small, variation size would affect airfoil. increases certain extent, decreases compared with original cases, but sensitivity change decreases.

Flight Measurements of the Effects of Simulated Leading-Edge Erosion on Helicopter Blade Stall, Torsional Loads and Performance
The leading edges of the main rotor blades of a Wessex helicopter were artificially roughened to simulate light to moderate erosion of unprotected light alloy blades. Pitch link loads were measured in forward flight for various spanwise extents of leading-edge roughness, and the values of forward speed at which a pre-set limit of oscillatory pitch link load was reached were determined. This lim...
متن کاملSimulation and Optimization of an Airfoil with Leading Edge Slat
A gradient-based optimization is used in order to improve the shape of a leading edge slat upstream of a DU 91-W2-250 airfoil. The simulations are performed by solving the Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equations (RANS) using the open source CFD code OpenFOAM. Gradients are computed via the adjoint approach, which is suitable to deal with many design parameters, but keeping the computational c...
متن کاملSymmetric airfoil geometry effects on leading edge noise.
Computational aeroacoustic methods are applied to the modeling of noise due to interactions between gusts and the leading edge of real symmetric airfoils. Single frequency harmonic gusts are interacted with various airfoil geometries at zero angle of attack. The effects of airfoil thickness and leading edge radius on noise are investigated systematically and independently for the first time, at...

متن کاملExperimental Investigations on the Performance Degradation of a Low-Reynolds-Number Airfoil with Distributed Leading Edge Roughness
Modern wind turbines usually suffer unexpected power losses after long operating periods due to the contaminations accumulated at the leading edge of blades. In order to investigate the underlying physics, experiments were conducted to study the performance degradation of low-Reynolds-number airfoils induced by distributed leading edge roughness. Roughness was simulated by precisely manufacture...
